Working With Business: Creating Effective Interactions and Successful Collaborative Research

The University is keen to encourage academic interaction with business and offers a range of enabling services. This seminar describes the services run by the University and is aimed at anyone who wishes to learn more about the services on offer and introduces the service providers. Specifically, the seminar will introduce;

  • How to develop and increase industry relationships to encourage research activity
  • Working with business to develop your research activity and enhance student opportunities, including the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Scheme and the Shell STEP Scheme
  • Routes for commercially developing your research; exploiting and protecting innovations through Intellectual Property Rights, funding and investment opportunities
  • Access to networks and business‘ incubation’ on campus; how and where to start.


The seminar will be delivered by representatives from; Sussex IP, the Regional Development Office and the Sussex Innovation Centre.

   
Intellectual Property: Protecting and Commercialising Innovations and Inventions

A workshop designed for academic and other staff who are involved in research and/or commercialisation. It is especially aimed at new staff in this category. The workshop will cover;

  • Recognising the commercial potential in your research
  • How you can protect the innovations and inventions arising from your research through intellectual property rights
  • Opportunities and support schemes available for commercialising innovations and inventions
  • How intellectual property rights are relevant to all stages of a project, from negotiation of contract through to fulfilling the Intellectual Property and commercial obligations of the contract
  • The University rules on the exploitation of research


The seminar will be delivered by Sussex IP.
