Russell Q Nicholls - IP Manager

Russell NichollsRussell is responsible for maintaining the University’s portfolio of Intellectual Property rights, sourcing new opportunities and providing IP advice to staff and students. He is working closely with Research & Enterprise Division colleagues and the Sussex Innovation Centre with the aim of seeking commercial routes for exploiting the University’s patents and software rights. By achieving this aim the University can further develop links with the wider research community, form industrial partnerships and enhance the reputation of Sussex for innovation, as well as attracting new sources of funding.

Prior to joining the University of Sussex, Russell worked as IP Commercialisation Manager at the University of Surrey and as Contracts Officer for the University of Brighton. He has a pharmaceutical industry background, has worked for a University College London spin-out company focussed on genomics research and holds a MSc in the Management of Intellectual Property from Queen Mary, University of London.
